Autumn 2024

Jim Cheff has created the vista of pumpkins on this issue’s banner.

We’ve now been publishing for five years: the first issue appeared in the Autumn of 2020. We figured it would be at least five years before we started to show up on radar, and have not been surprised or disappointed that our assessment was correct.

This is not a commercial endeavor, nor is it a bid for popularity. Though we have steadily gained in monthly views, the measure of our success is not the number of visitors, but their quality, and this is measured that of the submissions. We began with a core cadre of friends who could be relied upon for outstanding work, and have evolved to where we are steadily astonished by the excellence of what is sent us by new friends. Clearly, we are winning the esteem of those whom we can esteem, and this is how we measure success.

Our prediction for the future is, before another five years have passed, our little new world will be “discovered.” We can only hope this will not involve the arrival of missionaries, or the need to put on clothing.
